Toast, The

Small, semi-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle of uncertain manufacturing origin, probably of c1920s-1930s origin. The cutter has employed some colour line-cutting and the puzzle is housed in a brown card box originally supplied by J. Scott, watchmaker and jewellers from Taunton, Somerset. The box base carries a handwritten title and piece count for the puzzle in pencil, with a probably much later inscription on the lid, giving title and measurements.

The painting has been identified as being by the British artist Walter Dendy Sadler (1854-1923).
