07. Hub of the British Empire, The: Feeding the Pigeons in Trafalgar Square (300 pcs)
The 300 piece version of subject no. 7 in the South African Series of puzzles by AVN Jones. It shows a larger area of CE Turner's painting than the 150 piece version and his signature can be seen in the bottom LH corner.
Its main feature is an artist's impression of South Africa House which was being constructed on the eastern side of Trafalgar Square, but this appears to have been based on the façade; of Morley's Hotel which was there previously. The rather grandiose title was presumably designed to further promote tourism to South Africa as were the other puzzles in this series. The foreground shows adult and children feeding pigeons among the fountains in the square with the church of St Martin in the Fields in the background left.
This example comes in a generic "Springbok Series" box with title no. 7 ringed on the base.
