Mosque, The, Cairo

An evocative painting of a street scene in Cairo backed with the twin minarets of the El Muayyad mosque. The date of the painting is unknown. Today this very peaceful scene would be full of people and traffic. The El Muayyad mosque is one of the largest in Cairo and dates back to the 15th century.

The jigsaw has been cut in a typical CV manner and comes in a lift-off lidded box with no guide picture. The label bears a price of 7/6 (37½p) equivalent to about £37.50 today and the title, artist's name and publisher of the source print appear on the puzzle as illustrated.

This example was sold by a retailer in Watford, Herts.

It is understood that CV sold another "Cairo Street Scene" puzzle with the same reference number which with this one makes a set of two. Many thanks to Phil Stokes for this information.
