The Swan Maidens by Walter Crane

A beautiful jigsaw commissioned by Regina Bamert from an 1894 painting by Walter Crane. Cut by Raul in his usual style with signature paintbrush whimsy in Feb 2024. The painting depicts a myth or fairy tale from the Celtic tradition, but actually is widespread over the world. It is classified as the ‘Supernatural Wife’, in which a man discovers a transformed bird-woman, who he captures and forces to become his wife, often by withholding a magic cloak or her bird-skin. He generally loses her in the end, when she regains her original form.
